Education: changing the paradigm

Ideas, thoughts, feelings, suggestions...

of 8th graders after watching this video:

That the term "educated" goes far beyond the traditional idea

We shouldn't base our educational pax on age, and education shouldn't be so limited

I really like how he adressed Different thinking processes because, I think that is REALLY important and that some people base "smarts" on how many answers you get right but really it is about CREATIVITY and different thought process. I also thought how he expressed the "epidemic" of ADHD was important and how the real problem is NOT the child, but the distractions.

That guy is right, they made school really boring.

Children lose creativity as they age.

Everybody is smart just in different ways.

Our generation is getting less smart.

School is getting boring.

Our school is just like all the rest of the public schools, we just use different names for quizzes and tests.

Kids now are easily distracted.

We are getting "less smart"

I think we should have schooling more to this guys perspective and be able to learn more creativily, even if illogical

I also wonder if spending more time with younger kids, ie: 1st graders or kindergardeners, to see if we could become open minded doing so.

Society is too focused on straight forward, logical thinking, as opposed to creativity and expression.

ADHD is a condition that society has created, and medication shouldn't be the solution.

Our education should involve our interests

It shouldn't involve unneccessary things

Divergent thinking deteriorates, better younger

School isn't necessary, more thoughtful alone

schools should change how we learn the things in America

Also, we should asks and do more things to educate are kids

The way we are being taught is not the way we need to be learning

Things could be different

School takes away the ability to think differently

We should accentuate the ability, not take it away

I need or should do more think outside of the box

We the peole around the world are getting boring

ideas of keeping our divergent thinking throughout growth and our education is based on economic value and industrialism.

some children need more help

some kids are smarter than others

I think we should teach better and stop ADHD pills

Responses, replies, answers...

We should only have to learn things until we are competent on that. So, just take subjects we like or we have interest in. PROBLEM: We have a State Curriculum to achieve. WE SHOULD HAVE MORE ELECTIVES. MORE OPTIONS, TO BE A PART OF THE CHOICE.

IDEA: More creative homework, in class assignments, class discussions. Example: in SS We could try to imagine a scenario: a kid in the twentieth century Americans citizen in this time how would they react? LESS WORKSHEETS.

To deal with ADHD we could find helpers that they can help them, teach them to make better decisions (how?)

Trying to set up differents environmentsn for different ways of learning.

Why do you study things that you do not want/like that you think that will not be valuable for your future?

We should to study things to the point that we are confident with it and competent but not until the point we don't eve need it or don't want to do it.

Because we need to know this things for our future jobs. That's the value, a material one.

We may be not passionate about some subjects but we think we will need it. It is still valuable for our future life.

PROPOSALS,

- We want to make classes closer to reality, to real life scenarios and jobs.
- We need to make things more itneresting for us, because some of the teachers just talk. We need other things, like different ways of teaching. Hands-on, new technologies, creative teaching, a lot of us are still children (maybe some elementary activities)
- Most of the students in our class. We go home, we do our homework and we listen to music. So, we could listen music when the teacher isn't in lecture.
- Students are loosing interest,

- in Spanish more practical, more conversational,
